The most abused and insulted ex-President

Oh, Nigeria my country. The drama, the sheer drama, it just never ends.

So ex-president Goodluck Jonathan shared a picture of a quote he made on facebook (picture below).

It reads, “I am the most abused and insulted President in the world but when I leave office, you will all remember me for the total freedom you enjoyed under my Government.”

The way I remember it, there was freedom, yes, but there was also lots of corruption. I mean, this guy didn’t handle his cabinet so well, lots of looted money and all. But I’m not quite sure if letting yourself be ‘abused and insulted’ counts as freedom.

On the other hand, current president Muhammadu Buhari wants to stifle the country’s freedom of expression by monitoring Nigerians’ social media activity for hate speech (#SayNoToHateSpeech). This is the same guy that was doling out lots of hate speeches when he was losing all those past years. Hypocrisy is part and parcel of politics.

See, I like Goodluck. I mean, merely looking at his name you can already tell he’s got lots of luck on his side. He was Vice, probably never imagined himself in “power”, then the then President, late Umaru Yar’Adua (RIP), died and the rest is history.

Goodluck gets me thinking; what if he were to campaign again for president? What if he were to win? Has he learnt his lessons? Would his administration be any different from the past?

Only time will tell.
