I’ve had a running nose and cough for some days now, but deep down I know it’s my body’s way of fighting a much bigger ailment, like malaria. So this morning, as I do most other mornings, I got on my feet at 5:45 a.m. I stepped out and everywhere was pitch dark and silent. I got some water and began washing my car after which I did some house chores, some pushups and air boxing. Anything to kill that burning malaria sensation inside.
I remember a scenario in the movie Limitless involving Eddie Morra (Bradley Cooper) who was sick from the side effect of the smart drug, NZT-48, and finance tycoon he was working with, Carl Van Loon (Robert De Niro). Carl asked Eddie where he had been and why he wasn’t showing up at work. Eddie replied, “I’m sick,” and Carl’s response (below) is one of note for every serious business aspirant out there.
“You don’t get sick. You are playing at this level and you get hit by a fucking car, you don’t even die.”
Good health is one of the most important principles in business. You just don’t fall sick. Do anything to not fall sick, 20 pushups, 20 squats, boxing, running, anything for your body not to break down. You have to cultivate the habit of staying healthy by force, because investors won’t trust an unhealthy entrepreneur with their hard-earned cash.
